Dogs and Kids
Dogs or Kids? Humm? It is mind numbing to see that our society is debating about what is more important, our children or our pets? The tragedy for all of us is that this should even be a subject for debate. God help us!
Money
The $4,000 was turned over to Dr. Tom Campbell.
He told us the money went towards poop bags and to clean and fix the stupid fountain.
dog park festival
the first festival raised $4000 which was handed over to the dog park supposedly non profit organization...that money disappeared and supposedly paid for poop bags...c-mon, how much do poop bags cost anyways? $4000 worth? I-d love for someone to look into an accounting of that money because for all the hard work to be told it just disappeared in poop bags is a blatant lie. the only other new item was the message board which cost only a few hundred, not $4000. Won-t someone please find out what happened to all that money and hold someone accountable?
dog park festival
does anyone know the date & time for the dog park extravaganza for fall of 2009?

Wonderful Park
As a relatively newcomer to the dog park, just wanted to say that it is wonderful, relaxing and filled with friendly people. The folks who care about the park take the trouble to try to keep it in order and are not obnoxious about it but diligent and it is appreciated. Thanks to Miami Springs for creating a social center and outlet for our pets.
American Bulldog lost
Please help me to find my pet. I lost my dog on August 7th, he escaped through the back door and, was last seen on Swan Avenue and Lenape that same day. I-ve posted flyers around the Springs, goes by the name of Cisco, and is playful and friendly, has a brindle patch over right eye, one and half yr old. My kids miss him. We need him back! If you have any info contact me at 305-525-9771. Thanks!

Party ?
December 9th. 10am-3pm. Please come and tell your friends. We need this fundraiser to be a success for the sake of improving the park. You too can have pride of being one of the "owners" and show your support.
And to the person annoyed with people thinking they are the Owners...despite what some people think Owners are the ones that literally take the garbage out. They also make sure that the trees they planted for the enjoyment of all are watered and pick up the poop of pet owners that can-t be bothered. I know of one pet owner that did not know the benefits of having his dog neutered, he thought of it as taking away his pet-s manhood. Guess what, after confirming what he learned, the dog has been neuterd and the owner is delighted that his dog-s behavior has improved and in the long run that his dog will be healthier.I have donated cash when asked. Except for the upcoming fundraiser, there has been no way to make improvements to the park unless "those people" solicted donations. Maybe you were repeatedly asked because you seemed to enjoy the park on more than one occasion.Did you think the fountain for the dogs was dropped off by the Fountain Fairy?? Sorry you feel that way, the rest of us are enjoying our park.
Party?
I heard there was a party going on in december some time at the park....anyone know when?
Thanks
who owns the park?
It is a shame that people who go to the park feel as if they are not part of the "in" crowd,..... that being the people who frequent the park with their dogs, donate money and time to buy picnic tables, trees, and plan fund raisers to help enhance the park. Yes, indeed, we do act as if we own the park, just like I own my house, and that means I am a responsible pet owner, and pick up not only my dog-s poop, but most likely your dog-s poop, and spend a good deal of my free time trying to figure out what I can do to make the park a better place for my dogs and myself. It-s a shame that you feel left out, because believe me, we want everyone to feel like they are part of the "in" crowd, and feel like they "own" the park. What better way to meet new friends and have a great place for our dogs to play and run. Please feel free to join us any day or night at the park, and please feel free to feel one of the "owners" of the park! And, perhaps, make a donation to the enhancement of the park like we all have.....the park survives on it........our fundraiser is on Dec 9th, and we could use your help!
Dog Owners
Ok lets get this straight i don-t sit on the benches, i dont eat your food, i dont drink your water.. so Shame on me I dont think so Shame on you for harr ing new dog owners. You want people to participate but when they try you shut them down. ALL of you need to get trained on manners and how to interact with other people. Your Social Skills need improving. And guess again "C" my Doggie does not start with a "c"

Poor, poor, "Doggie style house". Stop by the Dog Park and perhaps we can remove that stick you have lodged up your butt!
How sad are you that you feel the need to get your jollies by drinving around the dog park and watching dogs DO WHAT THEY DO.
What a sad, sad human.

Dog Park?
A dog park is cool , but the kids in this city need some entertainment. Rebuild the movie theaters by the cirle add some more stuff to it and make it fun to live in Miami Springs. By the way, Miami Springs is a rich city they can afford to remodel that old movie theater.
Hola
Can I take my perro to the Parque. He only speaks espanish. Will there be other spanish speaking dogs? Muchas gracias

dog park-bark!bark!
I seriously can-t believe the comments that some people feel they can make on this forum. some of y-all should be ashamed of yourselves. What do the kids in M.S. lack recreationally? If you want to help kids who have nothing, go volunteer to be a big bro sis or spend some time in Overtown. If your complaining that there is a smell to the dog park, you-re wrong. Dog lovers do not love dog pooh. Think about it. The kids watching the dogs while they should be concentrating on the game, gee lets think about this, maybe they-d rather be playing with a dog, i know i did when i was a kid. what-s the matter with the fence? if you would like to help with the aesthetics of the park we would be more than happy to plant the flowers, shrubs and trees you would like to donate. all of the dogs (with the exception of just a few) that i have encountered at the dog park are just wonderful companions and great company for my "best friend".
Anyone
hey guys i love it im glad i had helped out w this great project me n my brother are so happy many residents like the idea.
dog park?
thought i saw marcia fulton there. she-s a rotweiler right?
A relaxing place for all
We have 3 dogs who are just ecstatic about the place! We also enjoy the dog park very much as we-ve met some really nice people and established friendships. The dogs get some much needed exercise and get to socialize with their furry pals as well as us less furry humans. It is a very relaxing and pleasant time for all and we always look forward to the next time. --Luly
its great

i love dawg park
dog park is the best place for fun with your family and neighbor hood dogs to hang out! the water fountian is the most comvinient thing since elecrtricity!
We love it!
My 3 dogs, my family and I love the dog park and ALL the dogs and people there, and the golden retrievers are the highlight of our time there! The dog park is a great way to keep our pups social, happy and excited!
ps - If owners feel "threatened" that their dogs are being "ganged up on"..dont forget theres an entire section for the little dogs, too.
(:
Happy playing!
Where are the bricks?
Way back when, I thought I read about prices for bricks, with the names of pets, past and present ,to be remembered.

Fleas Fleas Fleas
I am a huge fan of the dog park here in springs. I had been taking my dog to the park regularly... until he started to have fleas! Now I always keep up with the monthly frontline application, but I was curiour to find out if any other dog owners are having the same problem as a result of the dog park. Does anyone know if they ever sprayed the gr ? Thanks
ilovethe dogpark
i went to the dog park everyday and is near my home and nearthe Miami springs senior high so people who have dogs they should take them at dog park to see new friends to palyand is a good exercise.
great place to be
I went to the dogpark for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I was greeted by several large dogs rushing over to greet me, soon as they did that they went back to playing and romping. Met some great people, and some great dogs. Loved the experience, loved the idea that my dogs now have a place they can romp and meet other dogs as well. I-ve been going back several times a week since! And of course, my dogs love all the attention and exercise they-re getting.......
re: dog park rules
I frequent the dog park and I have to comment on the "attack" golden retrievers. First of all, golden retrievers nature is to "attack" by licking and wagging...is that a bad thing? Are you afraid of that? I am familiar with the owner dogs that you speak of, and I have to say that those are some of the sweetest dogs at that park....all those dogs "attack" for is a pat on the head, and an acknowledgement, the same hello that you would like when you meet someone. If that-s a problem, then maybe you are not a dog lover, and should stay home with your dog. I know that when I go to the park, I wear my oldest clothes, and am prepared to leave with some dog hair, slobber, and maybe even water on my clothes from the dogs who play and then come by for a pat before running off to play again. When I leave, my dog is happy and tired, and so am I. I-ve met some of the nicest people there, and I-ve also met some people whose expectations of a dog park make me want to say "don-t come back"...maybe you-re one of those people. Sosad, for you and your dog
Dogs are happy!
They love the dog park. Sing with me...Who let the dogs out? Woof Woof Woof Woof Woof
Dog Park
Nice job. Great place to take the dogs. It-s located across from Springs High.
dog park?
where is that dog park anyway?
Dog Park problem
I have been taking my dog to the park each day since it opened. I-m all for the dog park, but there needs to be RULES for owners posted up. I really loved the park until my dog was mauled by SIX huge golden retrievers (all owned by the same person!)...The owner could not control her dogs or get them off mine, and then they began attacking me. Worst of all, I didn-t even get an appology! There was nothing I could do about it, and now my dog won-t even go outside or go near other dogs because he is terrified! I definetly will not be using the park until rules are posted and ENFORCED!!!
woof woof

Where my dog can be a dog...
As a new resident to MS, it is great to have a place to run my exuberant dog after she-s been cooped up while I worked all day. I-m sure my neighbors also reap benefits from my dog-s ability to exercise at the park instead of working her mouth (yapping and barking) due to her pent-up energy.
I know the park is not yet officially "open", and more changes will occur before it does. I hope they address:
-- need for potable water, at least for the dogs. The fountain is a nice touch, but it-s not a water bowl. How about a hose bib or drinking fountain tapped off the (ever open???) restrooms?
--elimination of parking restrictions on Quail (and possibly Dove and N Royal). One should be able to park vehicles adjacent to the park; it seems inane to have to park across street or down the block, then walk dogs to the park. This would keeps dogs out of streets (and neighbors- parkways).
--The fountain (and benches) are a nice focal meeting place. But dogs, water, and electricity can be a deadly mix. If the fountain is to be lit and pumped, please do it correctly!!
Overall, the park is a great place for neighbors(and their dogs) to enjoy their community. And to all those who piss and moan; remember, you don-t have to bring a dog to use the park. Come out and meet your neighbors (and their dogs) anyway.

Terrible place for DOG PARK
I can-t believe they would put a dog park at Peavy Baseball Field!! Why not in an area that would be solely for the park..It is put in an area that is used by baseball teams during season for practice, and right outside the baseball field, how will the kids be able to concentrate on their games when there will be a bunch of dogs barking, and not to mention the smell i-m sure it will have... the fence for the park also goes around the park sign, it looks horrible, i don-t know what the dog park people were thinking when they decided on using that area..it should have been voted on for that area to be used...options to choose from would have been better ...unfortunately its already been done, so theres not much to do about it now..and it would be really nice for someone to take an interest in more things for the kids of Miami Springs to do...They are are future!!!We need to have a much better recreational program for them.
Dog Park Bark Bark
The comment about shutting up and getting out more.
Are YOU a property owner here in the Springs?
I live where there are already too many animals who don-t even have homes!!! The City of Miami Springs has their quota of three cats two dogs per owner.
If you-re caught feeding them you get fined for it.
But yet, if you take it upon yourself to try and at least feed them because they are just hungry dumb animals you get in trouble for that big time.
By the way its tax Payers that Keep Sosa on the payroll.Where did you think that the money came from Marriott Hotel corporation?
I get the idea that old people are just a pain in the Springs.
The Meals on Wheeels program is not one that truly provides for all that are really in need for its services just the limited few really get
anything out of this program are the privledged
YOU who are in such a defense about dogs!!!
YOU probably have no ederly family members to care about or that they could be handicapped and have no real way to get around very well.
So what do YOU care just so there-s a dog park that only takes care of a small area of Miami Springs?
I have no transportation to go to the other end of Miami Springs to let my two dogs for a healthy
run.
It should be taken into consideration that not everybody has the good fortune to live out by the
High School.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
Living in south Miami would definitely consider moving to a city that is more dog friendly for my friendly, very hyper poodle. People in the south need to open their minds to all the positive aspects of dog ownership.
dog park and tax money
the dog park is not tax money people! if you dont know something keep your comments to yourself. better yet, get out more. someone has been shut up too long.
dog park
all you people who want something for the kids do something yourselves. it has taken dr. campbell 3 to 4 yrs to bring this park to end. he did most of the work himself, and had a lot of help with volunteers. this was all done on his days off. so you can do a skate park or anything you want. but you have to work for it. long and hard, using your own free time. the comment about the kids not wanting the pee and poo in the school yard, it just goes to show what you dont know and dont bother to find out. the park is not on school grounds. it will be fenced in. if you want any other information try going to a dog park meeting and get the facts first before you blah blah blah.... by the way, the fence is going up as i speak, next to the school on county land.
Dog Park For What?
I know that money that the grant from Sosa would
help the Meals on Wheels program better than a short lived Dog Park.
Dogs don-t pay taxes or really benefit everyone in the Miami Springs Area.
What about our elderly people who cares about them Right?
The Kids?
What a joke, I can-t believe that people are against having a dog park because they would rather have a place for their kids to gather and be unsupervised. What I-d like to know is what happens, when kids start breaking into the park at night, or when a kid falls and gets hurt, who will be there to administer medical attention. Also, skaters will always be skating in areas that they are not suppose to be in. So whether Miami Springs builds a skate park or not, skaters will still be all over town looking for cool new jumps.
The point is that only a few people will be enjoying a skate park, but everyone can enjoy a dog park, even kids. I can bet that there are a lot more people with dogs in Springs than skaters. Not to mention that not all kids like to skate, so really a skate park is something that appeals to a very small demographic.
LOST DOG
I am all for the park, but I have lost my bestfriend missing from Westward Drive on 9 22 05, Pure German Sheppard black brown red, two years old, about 80 lb, no testicals. Goes by Prince, or bobo. Has microchip, but its not registered. REWARD$$$$$ Please call Danny 786-399-3290 or 786-333-7416. Thanks
solution?
I think it-s a great idea to have a dog park, but I agree with the opposition as well-what about the kids? Solution: Isn-t this tract of land big enough for BOTH???????
mssh
i would ilke to make a commet about the dog park next to the mssh (miami springs seinor high). i think that would be a bad area. but just to let you konw my sister goes to ask school and i dont but i think that i speak for everyone in the school that they dont want crap and pee in their school yard.
i love
hey i love this idea of having a park park in miami springs. i love this idea because i have a dog my self and i love the idea that they can have a place to hang out with their own kind. dogs deserve a park for themselfs as we do as humans
Want to get a brick?
You may pick up the form at one of these places:
* Petskingdom
* Rose-s Grooming house
* Cozy Corner
* Miami Springs City Hall
* Miami Springs Country Club
Just to let people know: When you get the form from petskingdom and return it with the payment, you will get a $5.oo dollars voucher from the store. Take advantage of it.
the best idea ever
people supporting the dog park commity should be listened instead of the others that think its a waste of money. it is absolutly not a waste of money it will be better off with a dog park because of many reasons why i myself have a dogs and am a kid and i would for my dogs to be able have a park of their own to run and play and do there things. because of the reason that may people get mad if dogs leave their mess on their yard
DOG PARK
Best Example of a great dog park is in Coconut Grove. The park is vibrant and full of life. I drive all the way over there so that my big dog can socialize. Frankly, it-s a pain to drive over there and my lovable fuzz ball can only make it there when I get a chance. However, here in springs, he-d probably get to the park a couple times a month. The Dog Park is a no brainer and we should continue to support this initiative.
What about the kids!!!!
The kids need a skateboarding park here! The kids would benefit and the city would benefit. Charge a small admission and sell drinks$$$$$I love animals, I walk my dog but would probably never bother going to the dog park. The kids----our future need more activites than our loving pets---think about it and TRY TO THINK SMARTER AND WISER ABOUT OF FUTURE CHILDREN INSTEAD OF WASTEING MONEY ON A DOG PARK THAT WOULD PROBABLY GO TO WASTE ANYWAY AND NOT PROFIT THE CITY OF MIAMI SPRINGS!!!!!!!WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR CITY??????
what about the kids?
We should get something for the skateboarding kids because there just there out on the streets and they can get hurt.
dog park--how about the kids?
How about a skateboard park like the one in Coconut Grove for the kids to use. They are skating all over the Springs right now. The Rec Center is not the place to have skateboarding, yet they are all over the facility. The downtown business area has been outlawed, so they public schools and Rec center are the skateboard zones. A dedicated park for these kids would at least bring admission fees.
Brick
Where can I get a brick?
Whats the big deal
...a dog park is a great idea. I am a fairly new resident to Miami Springs and love the community feeling it gives. I cant tell you how many times I see people walking their dogs and smile. A dog park will give people in the community the opportunity to come together.
DOG PARK
WHAT A WASTE OF FUNDS.
The Dog Park
I think the dog park idea is one of the best ideas yet. For those people who don-t like that idea think of it as no more poop and pee in your gardens. Now there will be a place for dogs and their owners to gather. I will enjoy walking my dogs in the new dog park
Dumb A$$
Keep giving him free publicity DUMB A$$ you are the ones that are going to get him re-elected. Shut-up and let him hang himself.
dog funds
I-m glad Garcia was there to take the photo with the check presented by Sosa. After all we know billy had no influence in getting the money for the dogs. Now we just need to make up the balance of the funds for the park. The seniors don-t really need the money for a center. When more county funds become available for the seniors, Garcia should do the same as he did this time an give it to the dog park. The dog are more useful anyway.
Garcia
I called Councilman Garcia to thank him for his efforts in getting the money for the Dog Park and he told me neither he nor any other member of the council had very much to do with acquiring the money from Sosa. He said that all of the credit should go to Dr. Tom Campbell who actively perused the commissioner and gave her all the information that eventually made her one of the Dog Park-s staunch supporters.
THANK YOU DR. CAMPBELL… and thank you Mr. Garcia for your honesty.
Bricks?
What do you need bricks for?
Dog Park will be a success
Mark my words...The Dog Park will be another of the hundreds of things that makes Miami Springs Great! I love this idea. They should put a deadline of 12-31-05 to get this launched. C-mon, let-s do it!
Oh, and where can I buy bricks for this project?
Dogs Suck
Dogs Suck! Except Bridgette! They should build that park just for her.
Garcia
Nice job working with Sosa to get the $25k for the park. Now, who-s selling the bricks?
Great Idea - Bad Place
I have been a Miami Springs Resident for the past 2 1 2 years and I choose to live here for the great family environment that is provided by our wonderful city. I have a golden retreiver that would benefit from the opening of this dog park; however, I do have to agree with many of the residents... the proposed area is a bad place for a few reasons. 1)No area to park; 2) If someone happened to leave the gate open and a dog did happen to wander out, the high traffic road is a danger to our dogs; 3) the land could be put to better use for the students of MSSH. As much as I would love for a dog park to be opened in the very near future, I would not want it to be opened on the proposed site.
To all of those residents who have a problem with dogs doing their business "in their yard" technically the gr y area between the street and the side walk is NOT your property. It is the right of way that belongs to the city...and to those residents who allow your dogs to do their business in the yards of other residents, shame on you... your dog is tresp ing on private property.
I allow my dog to do her business in my yard and wash it down PRIOR to walking her; have a little respect for your fellow residents and do the same.
DOG PARK
YES! TO THE DOG PARK. I WALK MY DOG AND I GET CHASED DOWN THE STREET BY A NEIGHBOR SAYING, "DONT LET YOUR DOG .... IN MY YARD OR ILL KILL YOU AND HIM!" SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, GET OUTTA MIA SPRINGS AND SEE WHAT THE REST OF THE COMMUNITIES ARE DOING. THESE CHANGES ONLY ADD TO PROPERTY VALUES AND NOT JUST DOG PARKS.... FOR THOSE WHO WANT THE HANDICAPPED GOLFING FOR THE KIDS, I AGREE. EVEN THOUGH I DONT GOLF. GO WORK FOR IT, LIKE THE DOG PARK PEOPLE HAVE DONE. DONT SIT BACK. GET INVOLVED.
dog park
hello, do your homework.
NO TAX DOLLARS ARE BEING SPENT ON THE DOG PARK. NONE.
Another good idea
This is why Miami Spring is as successful as it is. Putting money so we all can enjoy. From protecting our trees, schools, children and pets. Thats why every one wants to live in Miami Springs. Yes to the Dog Park, Prospect Resident
dog park
please find something better to spend tax money
Dog Park
I grew up with dogs and, although I don-t have any now (switched to easier to maintain cats!) a dog park is a good idea. The proposed site across from MSSH isn-t a very good spot for various reasons already mentioned, particularly safety liability issues. Perhaps Crane Park would serve as a better location.
But, if anyone (with or without children of their own) has seen the crowded sports fields in Miami Springs, it would make more sense to use the proposed "dog" park for a "people" park. Or, how about spending some money to finally get lights at Peavy field? Dogs are wonderful, but the children of Miami Springs should come first!!
the best city
miami springs the wonderful city who care the best friend of human --dogs--. continiung taking care, and thinking about our dogs

Dog Park????
What kind of City approves a "Dog Park" yet does not want to have handicapped kids at the golf course! I wonder how they would feel if they had a handicapped child at home. But don-t woory, all of those Hunting Lodge residents will eventually have to answer to a higher authority.
R-R-R-RUFF
It has been really rrrrrruff not being able to take my owner for her daily walk!
Thank You Doggie Park People!
Frolic Leash-Free YES!!
Finally! Someone has come up with an idea that is NO cost to the city but ALL the benefits to the city.
When is the opening day?
questionable dogpartk location?
As we all know MS Senior high is beyond overcrowded despite having a double shift. We must consider that possibly using or donating this land to build more classrooms, resource rooms, or additional parking etc for our children is a better investment in our future. We must also realize the potential hazards of lawsuits due to the numerous children at the little league field in close proximity to the coming and going of the dogs as well as the high school students waiting to be dropped off and picked up daily on double shifts.
YES! please!
I moved to Miami Springs when I was 5 years old
grew up in Miami springs became a homeowner in Miami springs.
I did not have children however I do have a dog..
she brings much love delight and joy to me-
She is a yellow Lab.. She is now diabetic ...Due to her illness I must dispense two shots of insulin a day ,
compounded , thyroid pills .. She is now blind from the effects of diabetes ..
I try and walk her, however, I can not walk her to far without her bumping into cars, cars that are parked across sidewalks... I can not walk her without her , bumping her head into fences etc. and yes, I do have her on a leash
She at one time played Frisbee , volleyball and yes! she even could with her nose
shoot a basket ball into the hoop! She is still able to chase and sniff out the Frisbee ,returns
that Frisbee to me , but! We do not have a local place for this interaction nor a sufficent area , locally available for this enjoyment..
She now, becomes depressed, she is unable to see.. unable to enjoy being a "dog" ; playing , running, etc.. all the wonderful things that dogs enjoy and, brings happiness to me , watching how delighted she is with this little bit of happiness that is shared..
Dogs are hero-s! ; seeing eye dogs. ; Dog rescue and search teams are responsable for saving many human lives .. surely such a small reward such as a local park would not be to much to ask in return..
Sayin no yea rite this is the greatest idea !!
hey how about sayin yes n we are going to do fundraises to begin with the idea of this project look anyone who says no is wrong i am a MSSH student and this idea is great because i have a dog too come on!! dog parks help out alot u can be relaxing for a walk in a dog park n spending time with your dog. i say YES!
Of Cour3!!!
Well i think that this idea is the most wonderful idea because the other day i went to walk my dog and someone told me not to let her poop there so i think that we should so like that people won-t complain. i have been to there meetings and they have great ideas for the dog park. so how about saying yes for our dogs and for ourselfs! IT helps out everyone!!
