What about the zoning problems with annexation? If MS has NO control over zoning the county can allow whatever they want to be built there, and we will be helpless to stop it! What about the annual 339k mitigation fees that we will have to pay for as long as we own the property? The current boundaries are not favorable or logical as they stand now. There are also questions about pollution and who would be responsible for any needed cleanups. Also 9 of the current commissioners dont favor allowing annexation at this time. The accident happened near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Loop Road. Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol says a 1997 Nissan was heading west on US 41 when the driver - 21-year-old Valarie Mendez - attempted to p , but couldn-t because of oncoming traffic. When Mendez tried to get back into her original lane she lost control and the vehicle slid into the east bound lanes. A 1996 Chrysler, which was headed east bound, tried to avoid the Nissan - but the two collided. Mendez and two of her p engers in the Nissan, 20-year-old Alan Suggs and 21-year-old Jose Diaz, were thrown from the car. All three were killed. A fourth person in the car, 16-year-old Silvia Tamayo, sustained serious injures. The driver of the Chrysler, 65-year-old Lucille Iannini, was also killed. One of her p engers, 69-year-old Robert Iannini, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious injures. Dog Park December 9th Hey The Miami Springs Dog Park, Inc is hosting a Holiday Extravaganza and Craft Fair on Saturday, December 9, 2006 from 10am-3pm. Vendors will be selling home crafted items such as gift baskets, soaps, jewelry, quillows, orchids. There will be a vendor there from Alaska who will be selling home made salmon dip and other Alaskan delicacies. There will be baked goods available for sale for both people and dogs. He said that he was walking around the City meeting the residents and asking them if there were any issues that they wanted to discuss. He also informed us that he hosts 2 monthly open houses for residents to voice their concerns. Councilman Garcia seamed to be very informed on issues that concerned us like annexation and our high tax rate. I-m so tired of these folks that don-t want to change squat in Miami Springs. I-m sure it drive Miami Springs residents crazy to have Hialeah traffic cut through your delightfully beautiful city, and rightfully so. However, I-m very sure many of you cross north to our "concrete jungle" to get to the 112, or for cheaper gas, or even to go to Publix. What-s fair is fair. nice but not practical Underground powerlines are less reliable than overhead lines.Most underground cables are fed by overhead lines.Resoration is much quicker on overhead than underground, because you can see where the problem is. It is much more costly to repair underground problems than overhead. Yes underground powerlines are easy on the eyes , but you would not want to pay for the cost of putting the existing lines underground , lets let each tree owner be responsible for their own tree and do the necessary trimming to keep the trees out of the powerlines . Trees Don-t worry about trimming trees as much as we should fight to have the powerlines moved underground. Yep...it-s expensive, but it would sure cut the amount of power outages. Such as , controlled planting of trees that have the ability to disrupt the electric lines . Trees are beautiful , but they need to be maintained, meaning that the owner of the tree has the responsibility of keep the tree trimmed as to not interfer with powerlines. That type of logic is no more than common sense,which is NOT very common today! If the City of Miaimi Springs can regulate the hight of my gr ,the size of my hedge, surely it can police the powerlines, where the trees have a major effect on the lives of the people living near them. Remember the powerlines where here first, 99%of all the trees in Miami Springs were planted after the houses were built. So, bottom line , each property owner should be responsible for his or her tree, F P L only cuts trees when forced to , which is paid for by all the customers down the road, which is only just another tax on the residents. 36th Street This mixed use project is perfect for the area. 36th Street is becoming a major public transit corridor. There are many of us looking for condos within walking distance of public transit. Life is a cycle. Automobiles in the beginning were afforded only to the very rich. That changed and anyone could afford it. Now we’re going back. In twenty years only the very rich will be able afford to own, operate, and insure a car. And they may give up on cars because of traffic congestion. Face it folks, the future is in public transit. And this high density project close to 36th street is perfect. A similar project is now under construction at 36th street and the bay. Others are planned all along 36th street, i.e., Miami Ave, Northwest 3rd Ave, 37th Ave. And I know others will follow along this corridor. It’s going to happen Miami Springs weather we like it or not. The key is planning. We need to work with developers and come up with a comprehensive plan as to how and what this corridor is to be. If a tree is growing on the property that is owned by me, the taxes are being PAID by me,the enjoyment OR nuisance is affecting me , then I should have the civil right to CUT, PRUNE,or REMOVE what is mine. The city can plant all the trees it wants on city property. The city can also cut down all the trees it wants to, on city property.(without my permission) Government is getting too much control over our lives!
